Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy Podcast revisits and expands upon his approach to determining your business sweet spot. This includes finding the intersection of three, important circles including what you’re good at, what you want to do, and what people will pay for. The ‘Sweet Spot’ is where these three areas meet or intersect with each other. However, if you only define two of the circles, your business idea may fail and be doomed to one of the three ‘Danger Zones.’ Jason not only identifies the three Danger Zones, he also clarifies why they can lead to problems later on.
Jason reviews the three circles that overlap to create the Sweet Spot for Success from episode #58: what you do well, what you want to do, and what people will pay for.
If you only have two circles intersecting, Jason cautions this creates a Danger Zone.
The three Danger Zones include the Hobby Zone, the Burnout Zone and the Lackluster Results Zone.
Why don’t you want your business idea to fall into one of the three Danger Zones?
If there’s no demand for your product or service, you should consider it a hobby.
Having no desire to do something will be draining and eventually cause you to quit.
Selling a service without any skills to back it up is fraudulent.
3 Key Points:
The Hobby Zone includes the intersections of what you do well with what you want to do. The danger is there may not be anyone willing to pay for your service or product.
The Burnout Zone is where your knowledge and skills overlap with what people will pay for i.e. market demand. The danger is a lack of passion for your service or product offering.
The Lackluster Results Zone encompasses what you want to do and what people will pay for. The danger is you don’t have the knowledge and skills to back up your service or product offering.
“The reason why you want to make sure you’re in the Sweet Spot and not in one of these three zones (Danger Zones) is because you’re not going to have long-term success or any success possibility if you’re not in your Sweet Spot.” – Jason Duprat
“Stay out of the Hobby Zone. You don’t want to just focus on where your knowledge, skills and passions are because there may not be a market demand for them. And if you don’t have market demand, you have a hobby.” – Jason Duprat
“If you don’t really have a strong interest or a passion for what you’re creating and selling as part of your business, then you’ll very quickly get burned out.” – Jason Duprat
